Smooth transitions!
Building relationships with families and the children is extremely vital to providing quality care and enabling your child to thrive. Working in partnership is the key to effective relationships for the best outcomes for your child.
At Woodlands we offer a free settling in session and always follow the needs of the child. Settling in can take a few days or a few weeks depending on your child's needs. Some children might need to build up to staying for the whole session and others may be happy to stay their whole session. We need to make sure that your child is comfortable and happy.
We are keen to get to know your child, the more we know about your child’s likes and dislikes, their daily routines at home, their health, their special people and belongings the better we can support and understand your child. Please complete the Settling in and Transition book with as much information as possible for a positive start.
How we care for your child every day
Clothing
It is really important to send your child with appropriate clothing and footwear for every session. We are always learning and playing whatever the weather indoors and out so please send spare clothes, coats, waterproofs and wellies, hats and scarves depending on the season!
Woodlands Childcare is an accredited ‘Sunsafe’ setting and it is vital to provide your child with a bucket style sunhat and sun cream labelled with your child’s name. Please ensure all belongings are clearly labelled, we can not be held liable for any lost property. We have a lost property box and regularly display items for families to check through. 
Toilet training
We try to fully support toilet training when you feel your child is ready. This can take time especially if your child is only with us for short times each week. Also please remember spare clothing particularly socks and a spare set of shoes if possible.
Independence
We help support your child’s independence by using real glasses and crockery for snack times, the children prepare their own snacks using our special ‘doggy’ knives and children can pour their drinks throughout the day at our water station when they choose.
We also encourage them to dress themselves, use the toilet, wash their hands and blow their own noses using tissues from our tissue station.
The children also love helping tidy up and clean inside and out with our child sized brushes, litter pickers and gloves.
Eating & drinking well
Woodlands Childcare is accredited with the Healthy Snack Award and prioritises healthy eating for everyone. We are also a ‘nut free’ environment to help keep everyone safe from allergies. Our Healthy Snack menus are written to ensure seasonal produce and the right portion of each food group is provided.
We also have lots of advice and support for a Healthy Lunchbox. Please only supply your child with heavily diluted squash for a mealtime as this is the only time it is recommended to be consumed by young children. Woodlands Childcare provides fresh water at all times and fresh whole milk via the government’s school milk scheme.
If your child has any allergies or dietary requirements please ensure to write everything down in the registration pack and settling in book. 
Keeping Healthy
At Woodlands Childcare we are part of the Government scheme for tooth brushing called Designed to Smile. Our younger children will have the opportunity to clean their teeth after each snack time. The parent consent form is part of the Registration pack.
Woodlands Childcare is also working towards being an accredited Healthy Preschool and we are always looking for ways to keep moving and be fit. We love being outdoors, playing games, learning new ball skills and getting out in nature for our wellbeing. Wellies and Wellbeing Wednesdays are a good example of this. 
Autism understanding & Acceptance
In July 2026 Woodlands Childcare was accredited as being an 'Autism Understanding and Accepting Organisation by Neurodivergence Wales. All the staff at Woodlands Childcare have undertaken training and completed two courses to be neuroinclusive. Families can feel confident that their children are part of a neurodivergent setting.
Communicating with our families
At Woodlands we use a leading nursery management software called ‘Famly’. This provides up-to-date information of your child's care and is an easy way to receive billings and make payments. Families are invoiced through Famly and all bookings and session fees are recorded via this system. ALL fees must be paid in advance.
The app is also how we can communicate any accidents, incidents and illnesses in real time. Safeguarding is held in high regard at Woodlands and it is vital we have a good accurate communication system and details in place.
